The SOA Battle Day puts the Franks at around 20,000 'persons' and the Seljuqs at around 7,000 (mostly) Turkomens.

Seljuqs

Working on a 1:100 ratio for the Seljuqs, this would give approximately 70 bases.

Lets suppose we have some ghazis, some professional horse archers under the command of Qilij Arslan, and the rest are Turkomen horse archers.

Order of Battle

1 Qilij Arslan

4 Heavy Horse Archers- Initiative 7

1 Kurdish Ghazis

3-4 Audacious Heavy Cavalry- Initiative 6

1 Arab Ghazis

4 Audacious Light Cavalry- Initiative 6

That leaves approximately 60 bases of Turkomens, rated as Light Horse Archers- Initiative 6.

This would give 10-15 units of between 4 and 6 bases.

This implies a rough force strength of 6 divisions (say).

So perhaps:

1 Sultans Division

1 Qilij Arslan

2 Turkomens

12 bases

1 Konya Division nominally commanded by Qilij Arslan's brother

3 Turkomens

1 Arab Ghazi

16 bases

1 Cappadocian Division nominally commanded by the amir Hasan

2 Turkomens

1 Kurdish Ghazi

11 bases

1 Allied Division commanded by the amir Koradja

2 Allied Turkomens

10 bases

1 Allied Division commanded by the amir Atsiz

2 Allied Turkomens

10 bases

1 Allied Division unknown commander-Danishmends?

2 Allied Turomens

10 bases

TOTAL 69 bases

  • 4 Hvy Horse Archers
  • 3 Kurdish Heavy Cavalry
  • 4 Arab Light Cavalry
  • 58 Turkomen Light Horse Archers

Crusaders

Commanders include Bohemond, Robert of Normandy, Stephen of Blois and Robert of Flanders (Fulcher of Chartres)

The author of the Gesta Francorum mentions Tancred, Robert of Anse and Richard of the Principality as also being present.

Order of Battle

1 Advance Guard

3 @3 Milites

Special Scenario Rule- Milites in advance guard may skirmish

1 Italo-Norman Division

1 @3 Bohemond (Milites)

1 @8 Pedites- Medium Shieldsmen

1 @6 Pedites- Medium Shieldsmen with Lt Archer detachment

1 @8 Pilgrim

1 Franco-Norman Division

1 @3 Robert of Normandy (Milites)

2 @8 Pedites- Medium Shieldsmen

1 @6 Pedites- Medium Shieldsmen with Lt Archer detachment

Both Robert and Bohemond should be treated as having a Command-Bonus of 2. Robert should be classed as CinC given his rallying role with the advance guard.

1 Straggler Division

1 @2 Milites Ignobiles

1 @8 Pedites

2 @6 Pilgrims (optional- replace 1 unit with pedites of same size)

Reinforcements

Godfrey's Division

Godfrey and Hugh the Great (Hugo Magnus)

3 @3 Milites

Bishop of Le Puy

3 @3 Milites

Raymond of St Gilles...cum magna gente

3 @ 4 Milites
